Drew Ellerman for Hurricane City Council

  • Put the Community First
  • Improve Government Communication
  • Stop Careless Growth

Why I Am Running

I’m running because I believe that I have something to contribute to the residents of Hurricane. I believe that a good member of the Council must have a broad base of experiences to pull from in order to contribute in the decision-making process. I have twenty-eight years of experience in municipal government. I work with citizens and professionals on a continual basis and help them with their developments through the design and building process. This includes making sure that the proposed locations are places that best serve a community. I believe that my life experiences provide a unique understanding of the needs of our community and will aid in the decision-making process that a council goes through. Most of all, I’m running because I care about the future of our community and the opportunities that we leave our children and grandchildren.

I Believe

I believe that government has no higher purpose than the safety and security of a community. I know what it truly means to dedicate myself to serving our community. I believe that what we leave to our children matters most. I believe that we had better get a handle on the housing issues that currently face our community so that our children will have the same opportunities as we have had to live here and raise our families here in Hurricane City. I believe that economic opportunity and growth are paramount to the future for our children to be able to raise their own families here. I understand residential and commercial markets and I study those markets on a regular basis so that I can be prepared to make decisions in a responsible manner. I believe the transparency in government is critical in maintaining trust in our elected officials. I commit to expanding access and especially dialog/communication whenever and wherever possible between the public and the elected body. I believe that municipal debt should only be taken on when a critical need of the community is identified, planned for, and supported by the community. I believe that the taxpayer dollar is sacred. I believe that the decision-making process in government should focus first on the community's needs over the needs of government. I DO NOT believe that what is best “for the city” is always best for our community. I believe in the future of Hurricane City and what it means to not only my family, but yours.

About Me

I have been a Hurricane resident since 2004. I was born in Kansas City, Missouri. Spent my elementary school years in San Jose, California, and graduated from Snowflake High School in Arizona. After high school I served a two year mission for my church in England. I met my better half (my wife April) and we married in 1986. We have two outstanding sons and two marvelous grand- children. Most of my professional career has been as a city planner (28 years). I also owned my own drafting business where I had the privilege to draw hundreds of custom homes and make many families dreams come true. I have loved to serve the communities I have lived in. From Little League baseball and basketball coach, to high school varsity baseball coach. I have also refereed and umpired city league sports (talk about a glutton for punishment). I have served in my church throughout my life in various ward and stake callings. Again, I love to serve and to give back. I have spent years designing and creating projects throughout my career in both commercial and residential areas. My expertise is in taking bare properties and seeing them through, from creation to completion. I am very well respected in the county and have made a name for myself as being easy to deal with, fair, and honest.I am not one to sit still, I am wanting to improve and bring value to our community. I am a very results oriented individual and will work tirelessly for the city and its residents. I believe that we need someone on the council who can recognize the value that can be created in how our city is designed and zoned. I believe that through proper design we can maintain and promote our hometown values and feel, while at the same time we can bring much needed property value and economic growth to our city. I believe that we need somebody on the Council who actually understands markets and development as we try to tackle the issue of the astronomical costs of housing. If you are like me, tired (or even angry) of the way things are going in the city, and you keep asking yourself why did they do that? If you are hoping to see our community move in the right direction with a different perspective and better vision, then join with me. YOU HAVE TO VOTE DIFFERENTLY THAN IN THE PAST - TO GET BETTER RESULTS. I am the right person - - At the right time. Vote Drew Ellerman for Hurricane City Council
